My favourite place in Eugene is the Japanese-American Internment Memorial Garden. After living in DC for 12 years, a city littered with memorials and monuments, this almost seems serendipitous. However, the reasons I'm drawn to it, are the intricate detail and relatable design. But, more than that, within the PNW's white utopic origins, I love this commemoration to a non-white population

Gushing Silence

I sit on a damp rock looking at the water falling. As it pours into the emerald pool below, the gentle splish-splash fills my senses. I watch, mesmerized, as the water navigates the rocks creating ephemeral shapes. I could stay here in this gushing silence for hours, letting the tranquil mist cloak me.
